Fighting back plastic pollution in every corner of the city

Green Hour has been working tirelessly over the last few years to ensure that our streets, hiking trails and beaches remain clean.

Plastic pollution is a serious issue globally. Hong Kong is no different.

Through our #Trashtag Challenge we aim to bring the community together to green our city whilst having fun, meeting new people and doing something good both for ourselves and for the wider community.

Green Hour's Plogging initiative aims to get as many people as possible from all backgrounds, abilities and ages involved in environmentalism. Whether you are a fitness fanatic or simply want to burn a few extra pounds, we have something for everyone, all whilst helping green our city and make new friends along the way!

We host plogging events throughout the city. Whether it's Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long or Kwun Tong, there is always a need for a plog.

We live in a city which is plagued with trash for various reasons. More often than not it comes down to educational issues or simply a lack of regard for the local environment.

Below is an interactive list of previous routes. If there are any places you would like to join us for a plog, you can get in touch via the form at the bottom of this page.

Hong Kong is home to over 250 islands, many of them uninhabited. This means a lot of coastline, including beaches. For centuries the city has been known as one of the major ports in Asia, however something other than ships is landing on Hong Kong’s beaches in the 21st century.

Plastic pollution is plaguing beaches across the world and Hong Kong is no different. Year after year our reliance on plastics is growing, as is the amount of waste winding up on our beautiful shores.

As well as this, a lack of understanding from some in society of the importance of waste management means that the problem persists and looks unlikely to go away any time soon. This does not mean we should give up though, as every small action can have a massive impact.

Every 1-2 months Green Hour hosts beach cleanup events across the city. Trying to target those more harder to reach beaches, we aim to make as big an impact as possible to help beautify our beaches, protect wildlife and educate the community of the importance of protecting our environment.

Many people are well aware of the danger of plastic pollution in our country parks and in the oceans, however those of us who unfortunately continue to dispose of rubbish poorly, as well as due to strong winds, Hong Kong's country parks are riddled with rubbish.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

For our cleanup events, most materials are provided, including:

Rubbish bags

Litter pickers

Torches (for evening events)

Gloves

Our events are scheduled throughout the year. You can keep up the date with them through Facebook, Instagram and via our Eventbrite page.
