Waste Free Hong Kong has teamed up with Maxim's Cakes and arome to help fight food waste in Hong Kong.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted.
Hong Kong is no different to the rest of the world, an approximate 3,649 tonnes per day (roughly 1.33 million tonnes per year), or 34% of the daily MSW* going to landfill.
As an organisation working to fight waste across the city, we would be crazy to ignore such huge issue. It is for this reason we are now organising weekly bread runs (or 'Bun Runs' as we've decided to call them as the rhyming sounds snazzy!) every Wednesday evening from 6:45 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Every Wednesday we will run across the Central & Western District in two teams, bun runners and ploggers. The reason behind this is that for team members whose bakeries do not have bread available, there is still something to do in collecting rubbish along the way!
MSW* = Municipal Solid Waste
