At Green Hour, we’re lucky to have volunteers who bring passion, purpose, and a little personality to every task. Sanday has been joining us for as long as I can remember. Not only does he dedicate his time to Green Hour, but he has been committed to volunteering for over 100 charities, earning himself the Spirit of Hong Kong Award in 2023. As part of our series of highlighting the amazing work of our volunteers, we threw some questions his way, and here's what he said to say!

What are some of your favourite things?
Any community-based volunteer activity that gets me hands-on because I do it myself rather than just talking about it or telling others to do it. That’s why I do so many outdoor activities and events.
What do you like to do in you free time?
I volunteer! I literally volunteer my time, skills and experience for different causes and with different organisations both local and international with presence in Hong Kong.
Why do you like volunteering?
It helps me to improve my mental and physical wellbeing especially that I get to interact with peers of different backgrounds or get involved in activities involving physical intervention - carrying heavy loads, hiking different terrains, walking considerable distances or doing manual work.
I also tend to volunteer a lot because at every event I learn new skills or enhance those I already possess like problem solving, communication skills, leadership. Volunteering has also helped me to widen both my social and professional networks. I know lot of people, places and more about Hong Kong culture through volunteering.
How long have you been volunteering with Green Hour?
7 years, since 2018
What is your most memorable activity?
A combined “plog + hike and clean” we did in January 2019 around Wong Chuk Hang and Aberdeen Country Park. We did a plog around Aberdeen promenade and Aberdeen Centre then hiked up to the county park for trail cleanup.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I am a “volunteer-holic” and I have volunteered with 100 organisations in Hong Kong alone. I am probably one of the most recognised and awarded volunteers in Hong Kong.
Anything else you would like the reader to know about Green Hour?
It is a great organisation that gives opportunities to give back to Hong Kong whether you are a first time volunteer or you are a recurring supporter of the organisation.
Thank you again for being a part of our amazing volunteer community, Sanday!
