Whether it’s reducing plastic packaging, choosing natural personal care products, or supporting local food systems, there are several stores and initiatives across the city making sustainable living both simple and enjoyable. These five eco-friendly spots are perfect for anyone looking to shop smarter and reduce waste.

LIVE ZERO
33 High Street, Sai Ying Pun
Live Zero claims to be Hong Kong’s first zero-waste bulk store and plays a key role in introducing the concept of package-free shopping to the city. Over the years, it has become a go-to destination for environmentally conscious shoppers who want to cut down on single-use plastics. The store offers over 300 everyday items including grains, nuts, spices, flours, oils, cleaning supplies, and personal care products—all available without packaging. Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers, jars, and bags to refill and reuse.
Update: Unfortunately, Live Zero has announced that it will be closing its doors in Sai Ying Pun, marking the end of an era for the local zero waste community.
WET MARKETS
Located all over Hong Kong!
Finally, while not branded as “zero waste” stores, Hong Kong’s wet markets are among the most sustainable shopping options available. With fresh produce, seafood, meat, dried goods, and flowers sold daily, these markets typically generate far less packaging waste than supermarkets. Many vendors have fresh fruits and vegetables without any packaging at all, and customers can bring their own reusable bags and containers to further reduce waste.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that almost all goods at the wet market are brought in via polyfoam containers, however it would be wrong of me to exclude them, given all other stores in this list will have packaging for some of their bulk items.
Not only does visiting a wet market support local farmers and fishers, it connects consumers with the origins of their food in a way that large chain stores often don’t. On top of that, it can also be a great way to connect with local culture and for those who are practicing their Cantonese, a great chance to flex those skills! Even if you're not looking to do any shopping, some of the wet markets are simply stunning and well worth a visit!
Whether you're new to the zero waste movement or already deep into your sustainability journey, these four eco-friendly spots provide meaningful ways to shop consciously and reduce your environmental impact in Hong Kong.
