With the growth in individuals who are practicing vegetarianism, veganism and flexitarianism (part-time vegetarian), it's important that we highlight some of the amazing plant-based eateries around Hong Kong that are worth filling your boots at.
Each month, we will focus on one or two different districts in Hong Kong. So far we have covered Sham Shui Po, and Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. Now let's take a look at Wong Tai Sin!
Chi Lin Vegetarian
Nan Lian Garden, 60 Fung Tak Road
Food Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Value for Money: ⭐⭐⭐
Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Chi Lin Vegetarian offers authentic Chinese Buddhist vegetarian cuisine within the serene Nan Lian Garden, adjacent to a tranquil waterfall and temple. Known for its elegant setting and health-conscious dishes, the menu features creative options like braised porcini with tofu casserole, sweet-and-sour wheat gluten, and delicate dumplings.
A positive of Chi Lin Vegetarian is that it uses fresh, organic ingredients and avoids overly using oil or MSG, however it is a little pricey and has a minimum spending requirement. Service is attentive, but English proficiency is limited. Reservations are strongly recommended due to popularity, especially for waterfall-view seating. A perfect mix of cultural charm, delicious flavours, and a calm atmosphere—great for vegetarians and vegans looking for a thoughtful, enjoyable meal.
Thai Good Tuk Tuk

Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thai Good Tuk Tuk in San Po Kong serves authentic Thai food with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. It’s praised for its rich, spicy flavours and generous portions at affordable prices, with most dishes costing between HKD $50 and $100. The vegetarian menu includes tasty choices like green curry, yellow curry, and pad Thai. The small but cozy space is run by friendly Thai staff, including one who speaks Cantonese. A great spot for those seeking real Thai taste without breaking the bank.
Heartful Veggie
Shop 107, 1/F, Mikiki, 638 Prince Edward Rd E, Kowloon
Food Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Value for Money: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heartful Veggie in San Po Kong is part of a chain of restaurants which offer modern fusion vegetarian cuisine blending Chinese, Western, and Japanese influences. Known for its weekday half-price afternoon tea deals, it draws crowds with creative dishes like black truffle avocado toast, mock eel omelettes, and walnut soup dumplings. Portions are generous, with most dishes under HKD $100.
While the menu is innovative and boasts a lot of space, it's often overcrowded during peak hours and can have slow service. Staff are generally attentive, but there is somewhat of a language barrier, and from further inspection of other reviews, occasional lapses in freshness have been mentioned. Despite flaws, however, its convenient location and bold flavours make it a standout option for vegetarian fusion fare.
